What’s the Difference Between a Small Group and a Prepaid Team?

Choosing the right registration type helps ensure you and your friends get the experience you’re all looking for.

Small Groups

Small groups are great for friends who want to play together but don’t have enough players to form a full team.

  • Designed for two or more players paying individually

  • One person starts the group and others join by link or group name

  • If your group does not meet the roster minimum listed on the league page, we’ll merge your group with other small groups and/or free agents to form a complete team

This option offers flexibility and is ideal if you’re unsure whether you’ll hit the roster minimum by the registration deadline.

Prepaid Teams

Prepaid teams are best for groups that want to keep their roster closed and NOT be merged with other players.

  • One payment covers the full team fee at registration.

  • No free agents or other groups will be added to your team.

  • You fully control your roster, as long as sport format and gender rules are met.

  • Corporate teams often choose this option to ensure only company players are on the roster.

Prepaid teams may register with fewer players than the listed roster minimum, as long as they can field a team. For example, a volleyball league may recommend 8–9 players, but a group of 7 friends who don’t want additional players can register as a prepaid team to lock their roster.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT...Roster Timing

For both Small Groups and Prepaid Teams, groups/ rosters should be finalized before Week 1 of your season so that everyone is set up for a smooth start to the season. Late additions or changes can impact the logistics associated with ensuring a smooth experience as well as the experience of other players.

Once your group is confirmed, we highly recommend having everyone register as soon as possible to help Week 1 run seamlessly for all teams.
